Site Tour : John Pine Homestead

In 1960 John Petaja (a.k.a. John Pine) left his 40 acre and 70 year old homestead for a walk and never returned. Game Warden Bill Richards visited John’s home shortly after his departure, finding food, along with John’s pension check lying on the table. Several searches were made in nearby woods but John was never found. His final resting place is still a mystery. The homestead interior looks a lot like it did when bachelor John Pine called it home. Future plans for the homestead include living history programs conducted during the annual Tori celebration and eventually throughout the summer.
